Body Intelligence from the Heart

Many of us in the Psycho-Spiritual professions understand that our intuitive knowing, our body intelligence, is our greater way of knowing—often associated with Women’s Ways of Knowing or “gut feelings”—an awareness available to all sentient beings.

In my counseling work and especially in teaching the essence of the wisdom of Tarot cards, such as VIII/XI Strength, XI/VIII Balance (Justice), and II The High Priestess, there exists a profound connection between our heart center or 4th chakra, our intuition or 3rd eye/chakra, and the functions of our brain. (for my lessons on these connections, please see the links to my recorded online Tarot classes, below).

Science of the Heart, Vol. 2 –  Heartmath Institute

“Our research suggests the heart … is an access point to a source of wisdom and intelligence that we can call upon to live our lives with more balance, greater creativity and enhanced intuitive capacities.”

“The heart is, in fact, a highly complex information-processing center with its own functional brain, commonly called the heart brain, that communicates with and influences the cranial brain via the nervous system, hormonal system and other pathways.”

The years of research that have been performed and shared by the Heartmath Institute (Heartmath for short) reinforces, from a scientific view, what many of us who are “Intuitives”, “Empaths” and “Sensitives” have always known—yet may have suppressed due to feeling overwhelmed by a world out of touch with the body’s wisdom—that our inner, sentient wisdom is wiser than what the world knows or acknowledges in most modern cultures.

As tempted as I am to review the historical and political suppression of feminine wisdom, suffice it to say that there is a wave of new techniques made available by writers and teachers that is irrefutable, presented as scientific evidence that speaks to the left-sided brains (see the work of Jill Nolte Taylor in her book, My Stroke of Insight).

Heartmath has examined the heart’s patterns of communication with the body and brain and formulated the conclusion that the heart connects in these four ways:

  • Neurological communication (nervous system)
  • Biochemical communication (hormones)
  • Biophysical communication (pulse wave)
  • Energetic communication (electromagnetic fields)

This new area of development—the validation of our inner ways of knowing and the healthy practices we can incorporate into our daily lives—is an area of study and practice I have been exploring, utilizing and writing about lately, as well as my offering special services. Please visit my last weblog post, Sentient Clearing™, for more information about this ground-breaking work.
